the Unit 4’s impressed. Surprisingly, the 16ms latency is virtually undetectable - making them well suited for recording musicians and producers

Copenhagen based audio company AIAIAI have been making waves over the last 10 years with their minimalistic but functional aesthetic, modular design and their use of sustainable materials. The new Unit 4 speakers are billed as the world's first wireless studio monitor. Wireless audio isn’t new, but the latency side effects of technology like Bluetooth has always determined that wireless audio was virtually unusable for musicians and producers.

The introduction of AIAIAI’s Wireless + technology with the Studio Wireless headphones in 2022 brought wireless audio to the studio with high quality audio reproduction and ultra low latency. This technology has now been applied to a pair of studio monitors which marks a first for AIAIAI.

The Unit 4 has been introduced as a portable option for producers and beatmakers on the go. Out of the box the units ship with chargers/power supplies for both speakers and an X02 wireless module which facilitates the Wireless + connection.  The built in battery gives users up to 20 hours of playback along with Bluetooth connectivity for standard playback which complements Wireless + technology nicely. The Unit’s come fully loaded with 3.5-mm mini-jack and 6.3mm TRS balanced inputs. The driver set up on the speakers consists of a 2 way system that features 1-inch silk dome tweeters and 4-inch 'high excursion' paper cone woofers.

On testing the Unit 4’s impressed. Surprisingly, the 16ms latency is virtually undetectable - making them well suited for recording musicians and producers. The speakers offer a surprisingly big sound for their relatively small form factor and have a remarkably flat frequency response which again will be well suited to producers on the go.
