MACKIE

Greg Mackie started off making guitar amps in his spare time. He left his job as a Boeing engineer focusing on audio products such as the Tapco line of pro audio mixers, and AudioControl for home audio processing. Eventually Mackie Designs Inc. was incorporated to design and manufacturer affordable yet professional audio mixer solutions. If we fast forward to 1997, the live audio world witnessed the birth of the prodigal SRM450 - and Mackie active PA took the world by storm. So much so, that even today some 20 Years on people refer to active speakers as ‘a pair of Mackies’ due to their convenience, power and clarity. This meant the SRM450 was the benchmark for their competitors as Mackie blazed a trail. DJs rocked a pair for parties, bands used them for FOH and monitor duty while PA outfits used them for the broadcast of messages to the many. They were truly the first fully rugged loudspeaker with an amplifier enclosed that wouldn’t turn to dust at the glimpse of a red light or a bump to the exterior.

Thanks to further developments and association with EAW (Eastern Acoustic Works), Mackie have managed to access and develop technology to make life easier for the performer, with pioneering features such as DSP presets, LCD screens along with robust wireless control and connectivity. Thanks to Mackie, its never been easier to change the voicing of a speaker and how it behaves, regardless of environment and whats connected. Mackie’s heritage in mixers is still reflected today with a magnificent lineup of both digital and analogue mixers, all of which have more than enough features to mean they are excellent value for money.
